Creative Process. Evolution.

My creative process has been evolving gradually in the past year.

~ I am thinking about a little piece of physics, and how it is described with math.

~ Then I am creating a SageMath notebook (plus custom code) that outputs a set of functions as parametric curves in a three-dimensional space. Here, diffraction patterns for visible light are stacked upon each other, and weighted with Planck’s distribution function for blackbody radiation at the temperature corresponding to sunlight.

~ The goal is to create a ‘fabric’ of ‘threads’ or ‘wire loops’.

~ I look at the 3D structure from different perspectives, zoom in and out. I screenshot selected results.

~ I juxtapose it with images / drawings / formulas to create a collage. This is the step I’ve only added most recently – in this case I was intrigued by Isaac Newton’s illustrations of his 1704 book Opticks (Public domain).

~~~
This was a recent Twitter thread of mine, adorned with my images exhibited here. I will use the tweets as seeds for poetry (and re-use the images).
I am using my dialogue approach to Found Poetry. I had once practiced with my favorite Feynman quote. I am searching for each phrase of mine with Google, then pick a phrase from the first website in the search results (bold italic font). This found snippet is sort of a ‘response’ – not on purpose, but it always turns out that way.
Here, diffraction patterns for visible light are stacked upon each other,
We can’t help it. Nature just makes it happen.
it is likely that Planck had seen this suggestion
The goal is to create a ‘fabric’ of ‘threads’ or ‘wire loops’.
I had not done a thread loop in many years
I look at the 3D structure from different perspectives,
  1. Beautiful! I can feel the particular excitement of something coming together. I love the energy this post conveys.
      Thanks a lot, Michelle!! Indeed – it felt like something was falling into place! I am happy that it shines through my post, although I was creating it more intuitively. I am always on autopilot when I create posts that contain poetry.
      Your comment also reminds me of your recent post – and of my comment over there. I could not fully express all the mental connections it had awakened. I could relate so much to your living in / in between different cultures, but I only thought of physics and engineering. I’ve also read a lot about art in the past year, a culture still foreign to me, in a good way. Now thinking about it again and looking back, I wonder if art (in a very general sense of the word) might be able to bridge all the seemingly diverse tech/science fields for me. These images do reflect / contain / are based on a balanced combination of physics and engineering (software and other). I had tried to achieve that before in various ‘STEM’ projects, personal and professional – but it never felt that right and complete (and as playful and easy) as doing that special type of calculations and collage. Maybe it is also because in contrast to the explicit tech/science stuff I do not feel the need to *explain* anything.
